Dear KHMS Families,

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break and were able to spend meaningful time with family and friends. It has been great to welcome students back this week—thank you for your continued support and partnership. We also want to highlight the outstanding STEM Academy Showcase that took place today under the direction of Mr. Feutz and Mr. Verkaik.  Our students did an incredible job demonstrating their creativity, problem-solving, and hard work. We are proud of the effort and enthusiasm they brought to the event.  

As we move forward, we are preparing for Spring testing, which will begin next week.

To help students do their best, please keep the following in mind on testing days:

-Ensure your child gets a good night’s rest 

-Make sure their Chromebook is fully charged

-Arrive at school on time, as testing will begin promptly after breakfast.

Attendance is especially important during testing days, as it helps students stay on pace and limits the need for make-up sessions. Please also keep an eye out for any additional communication from us as we move through the testing window.

We also want to share a reminder about upcoming field trips, which have been scheduled with testing in mind:

-April 21 – 7th grade: Frederik Meijer Gardens

-April 28 – 6th grade: Grand Rapids Public Museum

-April 29 – 8th grade: Visit to the high school, including a special presentation from Holocaust survivor Irene Miller

Dear KHMS Families,

We wrapped up the week with an enrichment day and a fantastic Reading Month Assembly. A big thank you to our Student Council, Mrs. Haines, Mrs. Boston, and all who helped make today’s assembly such a success.

As we head into April, we’re looking forward to a busy and exciting month that includes state testing and field trips. Below are the key dates to keep in mind:

April 21 – 6th grade will complete one of their M-STEP tests; 7th grade will visit Frederik Meijer Gardens; 8th grade will take the PSAT.

April 28 – 6th grade will visit the Grand Rapids Public Museum; 7th grade will complete one of their M-STEP tests; 8th grade will take M-STEP tests.

April 29 – 6th grade will complete their remaining M-STEP test; 7th grade will complete their remaining M-STEP tests; 8th grade will spend the day at the high school, including a special presentation from Holocaust survivor Irene Miller.

Dear KHMS Families,

March is Reading Month is in full swing, and we’ve had a lot of great activities happening throughout the building. Today, we welcomed guest readers into our Connect classes to share their love of reading with students—thank you to Mrs. Boston for all of her hard work organizing this opportunity. We’re also looking forward to wrapping up the month with a special Reading Month assembly next Thursday, where we plan to celebrate with a few special guests. As a reminder, our Barnes & Noble gift card opportunity runs through March 31, so there’s still time to participate and support reading at home and at school.

Scheduling for our current 6th and 7th grade students wrapped up this week. If your student has not yet turned in their signed scheduling sheet, please make sure it is returned as soon as possible, and no later than Spring Break.

A big thank you to Mrs. Haines, our Student Council, and all of our incredible parent and teacher volunteers who helped make our Carnival Craze such a fun and successful event. We truly appreciate the time, energy, and enthusiasm that went into creating a great experience for our students!

Lastly, we’ve recently seen an increase in students bringing gel-filled “Needoh”-type products to school. These items can be very messy when they break and can cause disruptions to the learning environment, making them inappropriate for school. We will be making announcements next week to remind students that these are not allowed. We would greatly appreciate your support in ensuring these items stay at home.
